Privacy: the AI assistant

Last updated 22 August 2026

The chat panel on this site is an AI assistant. This is what happens to what you type into it.

What is saved

  • your message and the assistant's reply
  • a random id that groups one conversation, held in your browser's memory and gone when you reload
  • the date, and which model answered

What is not saved

No IP address, no browser or device details, no location, nothing that follows you between visits. Email addresses and phone numbers are stripped out automatically before anything is stored, but please keep anything sensitive out of the chat and email me instead. The only thing kept on your device is the size you drag the panel to, so it opens the same way next time.

Why

To see what people actually ask, so the assistant and the site get better. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in improving my own site (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Nothing is sold, profiled or advertised against.

How long

90 days. Deletion is automatic.

Who else sees it

  • Cloudflare: serves this site and hosts the database.
  • OpenAI: writes the replies, so your message is sent to them in the United States. They state that API data is not used to train their models.

Your rights

You can ask me for a copy, a correction, or deletion, or object to it being saved at all. Write to [email protected]. Since nothing here identifies you, roughly when you used the chat and what you asked is usually enough to find it. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in the Netherlands that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
